Have you made the decision to welcome a new puppy, dog or rescue into your family?
Bringing home a new dog is an exciting time, and when you are so committed to getting it right it can also be quite daunting.
Are you feeling overwhelmed and confused by all the breeds and products available?
Let me help you navigate your way through the preparation and early days and arm you with the knowledge you need to welcome your new furry friend into your home.
Pre Puppy Visit
Booking a pre puppy visit will enable us to talk through your lifestyle and your expectations as a dog owner. Do you have any preferences, fears, or questions regarding the decision you are about to make? We can consider if a puppy or rescue best suits your requirements, and look at various breeds to find options that will best suit your family and lifestyle.
Once you have identified the type of dog you would like I can help you to find a legitimate breeder and give advice on the things you need to ask and check, or guide you through identification and applications to rescue centers.
As soon as the date for your new arrival is confirmed it’s time to assess your house and garden for potential weak spots! Those first few months with a curious new pup can be made much less stressful with careful preparation and some clever puppy proofing.
I can advise you on everything you need to prepare for the big day, and set you up for success from the moment your new four-legged friend arrives.
New Puppy Home Start
When the day arrives to collect your new dog, consideration must be given to the journey home and subsequent arrival. As part of the puppy home start service I will guide you through the requirements for transport, the administrative necessities and successful integration of your dog to their new home.
I can prepare a bespoke plan for socialisation and basic training, advise on a settling in period, sleeping arrangements (including crate training advice if required), and successful toilet training, offer guidance on equipment and how to introduce your dog to a collar, lead and harness, recommend toys to manage chewing and play biting, and explain the variety of food choices available.
This service is also suitable when introducing a new dog to an existing dog.
